Additional Information About the Ingredients

CATNIP: (From Drugs.com.) Medicinally, the plant has been used to treat intestinal cramps, for indigestion, to cause sweating, to induce menstruation, as a sedative, and to increase appetite. Additionally, the plant has been used to treat diarrhea, colic, the common cold, and cancer. In Appalachia, nervous conditions, stomach ailments, hives, and the common cold have been treated with catnip tea. The dried leaves have been smoked to relieve respiratory ailments, and a poultice has been used externally to reduce swelling. In the early 1900s, the flowering tops and leaves were used to induce delayed menses and induce abortion. )From Google.) It is LIKELY UNSAFE to use take catnip during pregnancy. There is some evidence that catnip can stimulate the uterus. This might cause a miscarriage.

VALERIAN ROOT: (From Google.) People use valerian to relieve anxiety, depression, and poor sleep, and also to ease menstrual and stomach cramps. Valerian has a mild calming effect that does not usually result in sleepiness the next day. (From Webmd.com) Valerian is most commonly used for sleep disorders, especially the inability to sleep (insomnia). Valerian is also used orally for anxiety and psychological stress, but there is limited scientific research to support these uses.

Blue Cat Sleep Helper Logo (tm) CATS CLAW BARK: (From Healthline.com.) Catís claw (Uncaria tomentosa) is a tropical vine which can grow up to 98 feet (30 meters) tall. Its name comes from its hooked thorns, which resemble the claws of a cat. It is found mainly in the Amazon rainforest and in other tropical areas of South and Central America. The two most common varieties are Uncaria tomentosa and Uncaria guianensis. The former is the type often used in supplements in the United States (2Trusted Source). The bark and root have been used for centuries in South America as a traditional medicine for many conditions, such as inflammation, cancer, and infections. Catís claw supplements can be taken as a liquid extract, capsule, powder, or tea. Catís claw may support your immune system, possibly helping fight infections more effectively. A small study in 27 men found that consuming 700 mg of catís claw extract for 2 months increased their number of white blood cells, which are involved in combating infections (3Trusted Source). Another small study in four men given catís claw extract for six weeks noted the same results (4Trusted Source).

MAGNOLIA BARK: (From Healthline.com) One type -- Magnolia officinalis -- is commonly called the houpo magnolia, or sometimes simply "magnolia bark." The houpo magnolia tree is native to China, where it has been used for thousands of years as a supplement in traditional Chinese medicine. The bark is particularly rich in two neolignans that are believed to be responsible for its medicinal properties -- magnolol and honokiol (1Trusted Source, 2Trusted Source). Neolignans are a type of polyphenol micronutrient in plants. Polyphenols are highly valued for their antioxidant levels and believed to offer many health benefits. Some of the conditions that magnolia bark has traditionally been used to treat include asthma, anxiety, depression, stomach disorders, and inflammation (3Trusted Source, 4Trusted Source). Aside from neolignans, more than 200 chemical compounds have been isolated from the tree (5Trusted Source).

These compounds, including magnolol and honokiol, have been studied extensively in recent years for their anti-inflammatory, anticancer, antimicrobial, and antioxidant benefits (1Trusted Source, 2Trusted Source, 4Trusted Source, 6Trusted Source, 7Trusted Source, 8Trusted Source). Itís important to note that the exact mechanisms through which the isolated compounds contribute to these effects are still being investigated. Oxidative stress also appears to play a significant role in many changes in the body and mind that accompany aging (11Trusted Source). Polyphenols, such as those found in magnolia bark, have been suggested as a potential therapy to combat the side effects of oxidative stress and inflammation (12Trusted Source).

LAVENDER FLOWER POWDER: (From Healthline.com.) Lavender is most commonly used in aromatherapy. The fragrance from the oils of the lavender plant is believed to help promote calmness and wellness. It's also said to help reduce stress, anxiety, and possibly even mild pain. It may improve mood disorders. Lavender is widely used as an aromatherapy agent and supplement to help with anxiety, depression, and fatigue. May boost sleep. The calming effect of lavender in the body is also thought to boost sleep. May soothe menstrual cramping. May improve skin health. (From Google.) Researchers found that lavender increased the amount of slow- and deep-wave sleep in participants.

NOTE: This is a small ingredient in Blue-Cat and should not have any side effects.
